Last week I had the opportunity to attend the MAER conference at the Mississippi School for the Blind, in Jackson, Mississippi. If you are not familiar with MAER, it is the Mississippi Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired. This year, the conference was titled, “Vision Toward Innovation: Eyes to the Future”. That was a very accurate description, because the conference had several presentations on medical and technological innovations.
I was a vendor at the event, and I got to meet many great people. Some of them, it turns out, are practically next door to me, but I had to travel to Jackson to meet them! Fortunately, we are acquainted now, and we look forward to working together.
Even though I was a vendor, I got the chance to attend the conference sessions. I am never sure how it will be, as a vendor. Sometimes, conferences have so much traffic through the vendor hall that I don’t dare leave my booth. Other times, as at this conference, most of the people are attending the sessions, with schedule breaks in the agenda for the vendor hall.
I took about 15 pages of notes, and I look forward to sharing the information soon. MAER is having a membership drive right now, so if you are interested in joining, you will be entered to win some really great prizes. Please email me at info@FFBraille.com to learn more!
